Pilot projects for the circular economy in Frauenfeld

The city of Frauenfeld commissioned ecos as part of a New Regional Policy (NRP) project to strengthen the city center of Frauenfeld. The aim was to develop circular economy pilot projects together with local stakeholders from fall 2021 to spring 2022. These are intended to contribute to the enhancement of Frauenfeld city center and at the same time help to save resources and waste, thus making a very concrete local contribution to environmental and climate protection. A participatory, co-creative approach was chosen to develop the pilot projects. In three workshops, local stakeholders from different backgrounds came together and were given the opportunity to use design thinking methods to develop pilot project ideas that represent a concrete, practical and feasible response to local problems and take into account the needs of local target groups.

In the first workshop, the participants were given an introduction to the circular economy before jointly analyzing the local opportunities and challenges. Following the first workshop, three strategic directions for pilot projects were developed on the basis of these findings and with the help of internet and document research. Based on these, the participants were supported in the second workshop with a target group survey, the generation of ideas and the development of so-called prototypes – tangible models of the pilot project ideas. Finally, in the third workshop, the prototypes were mirrored with other participants and the ideas for implementing the pilot project ideas were discussed in greater depth. ecos then bundled the results from the three workshops into an action plan that serves as a communication tool for the city of Frauenfeld to organize the next steps towards successful implementation of the pilot project ideas.
