ecos organized the fifth edition of the symposium “Resource conservation – from idea to action” on 28/29 May 2019 in Basel on behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU). The transnational symposium “Resource conservation – from idea to action” celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019 and is organized by the environmental ministries and federal offices of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The focus of the symposium was the transnational exchange of experience on topics from the areas of resource conservation and recycling management and, in particular, the further development of waste management into a resource-conserving materials management. Experts from science, industry, politics and administration as well as from international organizations presented the latest research results and initiatives. The 2019 edition covered the following topics, among others: The problem of plastic (recycling vs. pollutant removal), dealing with food waste, conserving resources in the construction industry and new consumption patterns and lifestyles.
