Development of a circular economy masterplan
The assignment included the development of a master plan to promote the circular economy in the city of Bern. Based on the material flow analyses from the Circular Cities Switzerland project (link), the city’s relevant fields of action for the promotion of the circular economy were first identified.
Visions were then formulated for the following strategic areas:
- Public procurement
- Nutrition and food waste
- Waste management & recycling
- Construction & property management
- Benefit-based business models
Pilot projects were then designed for the first three areas (public procurement, food waste and waste management & recycling) in co-creative processes with the administration.
Implementation of pilot projects
In collaboration with partners, ecos subsequently supported the implementation of two of the pilot projects designed.
- Reduction of food waste at municipal daycare centres
- Circular public procurement: multimedia equipment, work clothing, printed materials, definition of criteria for general circular procurement
